Subject: Carnegie Mellon University IT Lab JSI 2014 Information - CMU Rep @ Calvin College on 10/11/13
Dear Professor Adams,
Carnegie Mellon University’s H. John Heinz III College will host the 2014 IT Lab- Junior Summer Institute<http://www.heinz.cmu.edu/school-of-information-systems-and-management/itlab/index.aspx>, a seven week paid summer fellowship program ($3,000) for rising seniors at Calvin College (as well as any of the IT LAB's other partner institutions, listed below). Below is information about the fellowship. As you may already know, I will visit the Calvin College campus this Friday, October 11, 2013 (10:00 am – 3:00 pm, information table in hall outside CS labs in the Science Building). I will be happy to discuss the IT Lab JSI as well as our graduate degrees with any interested Calvin students, faculty and staff. Please feel free to forward this information as you feel is appropriate. (I have also sent this information to Vic Norman who kindly assisted in coordinating the information table for me since a presentation at the weekly seminar conflicted with an event I was already committed to attend at MSU. In case he has forwarded this email to you, I apologize for the duplication in your inbox).
Students in CMU’s IT Lab will interact with top CMU faculty on research projects in urban systems, digital entertainment analytics<http://www.heinz.cmu.edu/faculty-and-research/faculty-profiles/faculty-details/index.aspx?faculty_id=92>, healthcare IT<http://www.heinz.cmu.edu/faculty-and-research/faculty-profiles/faculty-details/index.aspx?faculty_id=72>, and data privacy<http://www.heinz.cmu.edu/faculty-and-research/faculty-profiles/faculty-details/index.aspx?faculty_id=3>. Along with their experiential learning activities, IT Lab Fellows will take two summer courses at CMU, one in empirical methods and one in innovation.
Application Deadline: November 1, 2013
The IT Lab-Junior Summer Institute will accept applications from U.S. citizens/permanent residents pursuing STEM-related undergraduate degrees such as computer science, engineering, math, physics, information technology, or business information systems.
We would appreciate your help in sharing news about this opportunity with your students. Our goal is to offer the fellowship to as many as 20 students for the 2014 cohort. In your role on campus, you interact with students on a daily basis who would not only be eligible for this fellowship, but who would greatly benefit from the experience we are offering next summer.
The IT Lab will provide its Fellows with a stipend of $3,000 in addition to completely covering the cost of participating in this unique summer fellowship opportunity. This includes tuition, books and supplies, transportation to and from Pittsburgh, housing, meals, and social functions.
