Meijer is looking for a Technical Engineer - Windows Server Architecture. The individual selected for this position will be responsible for engineering and/or analytical tasks and activities associated with areas within their assigned function (e.g. UNIX, Windows, Network Management, Middleware, Mainframe), with the majority of time spent on design, development and analysis activities. Performs complex tasks relating to assigned areas including small to large projects, software and hardware installation and configuration, problem resolution and performance tuning.
Assists in the implementation of related architectures and new technologies. Can assist in the identification and resolution of hardware and software technical problems. Assists senior level engineers in the areas of throughput analysis, problem solving, and infrastructure planning. Helps to identify troublesome trends as they develop. Participates in providing a stable environment for the enterprise system. Participates in various IT projects intended to continually improve infrastructure availability and performance.
This individual is responsible for providing a competent level of technical and/or project support expertise to ensure the achievement of organizational goals and objectives. Able to interface with other Information Technology professionals and managers as well as outside vendors. Has proven project management and support skills in assigned technology. Has a proven track record of working in a team environment, and is comfortable working on projects through all life cycle phases in accordance with established direction and standards, while maintaining a high level of user trust and confidence.

Key responsibilities include:

  *   Assisting in designs for assigned technologies, based on direction set by strategy, architecture and customers
  *   Implementing identified solutions, making suggestions to ensure a cost-effective and efficient infrastructure environment to provide the resources essential to enterprise operations
  *   Familiar with and able to install and maintain associated hardware, as applicable
  *   Troubleshooting, maintaining, upgrading, and providing solutions to hardware/software problems
  *   Alerting management, help desk team, and other IT groups when issues or problems arise
  *   Minimizing client productivity loss caused by technology outages, and providing necessary infrastructure for clients to meet their business needs
  *   Monitoring and controlling infrastructure performance in the areas of response, throughput, and availability
  *   Aiding in locating the necessary tools and processes to identify troublesome trends
  *   Understanding identified trends and plans designed to resolve problems and prevent them from recurring
  *   Maintaining high service levels for the user community
  *   Having familiarity with the method used to easily compare installation performance against established performance objectives
  *   Ensuring a stable environment for enterprise systems
  *   Keeping aware of system problems that occur in corporate network, identifying and solving problems as rapidly as possible
  *   Providing critical and essential services to locations enterprise wide
  *   Assisting in the implementation of test plans including functionality, integrity, and stress testing, being knowledgeable of test platforms, including evaluation of test equipment and design test networks
  *   Leading and/or participating in various IT projects intended to continually improve the IT infrastructure, such as evaluation of new software and hardware required to meet a business need or to make a process more cost effective
  *   Reviewing assigned service requests daily, following up and providing status updates to clients
  *   Ensuring data pertaining to the status of service requests is entered into help desk problem tracking systems accurately and promptly on a daily basis to provide an up-to-date picture of service delivery status and backlog
  *   Identifying opportunities for improving service efficiency and effectiveness
  *   Participating in IT initiatives to address service issues
  *   Keeping abreast of technical aspects of the computing environment
  *   Developing a working knowledge of department specific applications
  *   Attending seminars and other educational opportunities, seek out insight and on-the-job training from senior engineers and other internal and external resources
  *   Helping configure, install, and maintain necessary services for assigned technologies to provide a suitable environment to run production applications and to perform development
  *   Assisting in performing maintenance and release upgrades on a timely basis or as needed
  *   Monitoring performance and availability of Communications platforms
  *   Participating in tool and vendor evaluations
  *   Continuously striving to improve client support, identifying opportunities and recommending solutions for improving service efficiency and effectiveness, while developing a working knowledge of department specific applications
  *   Providing project management responsibility for assigned projects, including creating schedules, accepting tasks, and ensuring projects are completed on time and on budget
  *   Deploying strategic plans and can quickly identify key success factors

  *   Working on multiple technical projects, maintaining comprehensive project plans/schedules (using these to provide management with accurate and complete status information)

Qualifications

  *   Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Telecommunications, or other related discipline
  *   Two to four years of related experience in IT infrastructure environments supporting similar technologies and services
  *   Three to five years of related experience in technical services for hardware/software engineering and production support of the areas of responsibility listed above
  *   A proven track record of project management capability for small to medium sized projects, utilizing a project methodology through all life cycle phases in accordance with established direction and standards
  *   Certifications related to assigned area(s) of technology a plus (e.g. Certified Network Engineer/CNE)
  *   Experience in multi-platform environments
  *   Basic understanding of distributed systems architecture and general knowledge of multiple technical disciplines including PC workstations (configuration and connectivity), network file servers, applicable software, and troubleshooting techniques
  *   Technical knowledge and aptitude in assigned technologies, able to work on and support these technologies independently
  *   Ability to understand and assist in solving cross-functional problems that span multiple areas of technology
  *   Some experience with small to large projects in a cross functional environment
  *   Ability to effectively communicate with a broad base of end-users
  *   Strong technical and non-technical communication skills
  *   Ability to effectively adapt to rapidly changing technology and apply it to business needs
  *   Basic understanding of the enterprise business and business processes; awareness of business unit functions and cross group dependencies/relationships
  *   Ability to identify user requirements and aid in problem resolution with supervision; good customer service and communication skills
  *   Good judgment and analytical skills; as well as follow up and organizational skills
  *   General knowledge of vendor services for assigned technologies (e.g. network services, operating systems)
