The Internship program at Gordon Food Service is a paid 13-week Summer Program designed to identify and mentor current college students that exhibit high potential, develop relationships within the Community, College and University environments, and is available to students who have an interest in Gordon Food Service. The internship experience at GFS includes individual projects, mentoring, intern events, final presentation and evaluations. Our goal is for the program to provide a learning environment outside of the classroom.
As an Intern at Gordon Food Service you, under general supervision, will perform support tasks as directed involving administering a specialized program or performing a specialized assignment in a specific department.
Position Description:
As the Database Administrator Intern with Gordon Food Service you will participate in project(s) and daily support activities.
Project Assigned:
* Develop a process to monitor the status of user account termination requests and alert the team when further action is required.
Responsibilities will include:
* Terminate Oracle database accounts
* Perform basic data model updates
* Create scripts for database change requests
* Perform maintenance on database metadata
* Check for and resolve space issues on non-production databases
* Other Duties as Assigned
Additional Essential Functions of Internships include:
* Maintain accountability for completing support tasks as directed.
* Maintain clear and appropriate documentation of actions taken.
* Analyzes department processes and other Gordon Food Service (GFS) systems encountered and makes recommendations, improvements, as appropriate. Participates in quality monitoring activities/process improvement activities.
* Communicates, collaborates, and acts as a team member with others in order to ensure continuity and coordination of services.
* Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Key qualifications and requirements for this position include:
* Candidates must be enrolled in a Bachelor program in Information Systems, Computer Science or a relevant field
* Basic Understanding of Data Analysis practices
* Basic knowledge of a RDBMS such as Oracle, SQL Server, Postgres
* Basic knowledge of Data Modeling Tools and Techniques
* Basic knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL)
* Basic knowledge of Unix / Linux operating systems
* Basic knowledge of Unix / Linux scripting
* Basic knowledge of Windows Server
* Ability to learn through reading and practicing skills
* At least 60 credit hours earned by May 2015. Students will be asked to provide a transcript at the time of an interview
* Must have at least one semester or more left of school to complete at the beginning of the internship (a senior who has already graduated will not be considered for an internship)
* Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
* Must be authorized to work in the US, regardless of citizenship status.
* Must possess effective written and verbal communication skills
* Candidates must also demonstrate efforts to continuously improve, exhibit enthusiasm, high expectations of self, initiative, openness, optimism, teamwork, trustworthiness and willingness to invest the time and energy to be successful
