> Hello! My name is Kendra Beutler. My husband and I own EduSource, a custom software company out of Indianapolis.
>
> One thing that makes us unique is our apprentice program. Each year, we hire a new class of software apprentices. An EduSource apprenticeship is different than an internship. Through intense training and an emphasis on mentoring, partly because of the training we offer and partly because of our program isn’t just one summer. In fact, our students work for us for up to two full years (we prefer to start them after their sophomore years in college, but we hire juniors, as well), full time (in Indianapolis) during the summers and part time (remotely) during the school years.
>
> EduSource writes custom software, primarily web applications on the .NET platform, but occasionally iOS apps and a variety of other projects.
>
> Why students should apply:
>
>
> Money! Apprentices start at a competitive hourly rate and get raises based on experience and leadership opportunities. Over two years working at EduSource, apprentices can earn more than $40,000.
> Experience. Recent graduates often have a hard time finding that first job – employers want five years of experience. As an apprentice, you’ll get the first two years under your belt. We’ll be thrilled to write you a great recommendation.
> A possible future job. At this point, we’ve offered full-time jobs to 75% of our graduating apprentices. A full-time job at EduSource offers many additional benefits.
> Real-world preparation. Students learn industry best practices through everyday work on programming projects under experienced software developers.
> Continuing education. We are very invested in educating our apprentices. Why wouldn’t we use any opportunity to train our potential future workforce? We offer opportunities like book clubs with senior staff members, weekly EduSource U classes (with topics varying from new technology to leadership and business ideas), tech forum (where students get the chance to share their technical solutions with the rest of the company), and individualized goal coaching with a senior member of the staff.
> Exposure. Our apprentices occasionally get exposure to client relationships by attending meetings and phone calls with clients and sometimes even delivering professional presentations or demos.
>
> What we’re looking for:
>
> · Current sophomores and juniors. We generally only accept students that have finished their sophomore year at a four-year, accredited university. Students can only start an apprenticeship in the summer, so we also don’t accept current seniors.
> · Computer science majors. We are happy to talk to those in similar majors, like software engineering.
> · Creative problem solvers. We value innovation highly, and part of the application process involves a group problem-solving activity.
> · Dependable students. Since our apprentices work during the school year, too, we need people who can juggle being a full-time student and working part-time. We expect our apprentices to be mature beyond their years.
> · Culture fit. We look for those that exemplify faith, hope, love, and excellence. Culture fit is a big deal at EduSource. EduSource is an uplifting, encouraging place to work. It stays that way because of the people we hire.
>
> Interested? To get started in the application process, email Kendra your resume at Kendra.beutler at edusource.us. Applications close on Nov. 3, but we are keeping them open until Nov. 10 for Calvin students, since we are hoping to meet several interested students at the job fair on Nov. 7. Feel free to just email with any questions..
