Position Title: IT Operations Developer
Department: IT
Direct Supervisor: Operations IT Manager
IT Operations at Tekton are at the point of convergence between all areas of the company. An IT
Operations Developer works with teams from multiple departments on a single task and employs his or
her programming prowess to code, test, and deploy solutions that improve the company. This position
provides a refreshing mix of strategic and hands-on work.
This work includes meeting with company and team leaders to understand their needs, developing and
deploying software solutions to meet team goals, identifying system and process issues and efficiently
implementing corrections to those problems, and communicating regularly with individuals, departments,
or the entire company about IT updates.
An IT Operations Developer often works with people with less IT knowledge than they have, so it’s
important that he or she has exceptional communication skills and can clearly explain complex ideas
when speaking or writing. The type of person who will be successful in this role is also someone who:
● Personally aligns with Tekton’s brand, philosophy, and goals
● Enjoys working on hardware or software systems as a hobby
● Has a passion for coding and lots of experience with JavaScript and SQL, in particular
● Thinks analytically, looks beyond the surface, and makes connections that others overlook
● Works well under pressure, including when problems arise
● Demonstrates consistent follow-through when juggling projects with varying degrees of urgency
● Works well independently as well as part of a collaborative team
Some Specific Role Responsibilities:
● Contributes to the development of our ERP system (NetSuite)
● Actively seeks out flaws in our systems and implements improvements
● Helps develop websites that are used both internally and externally
● Creates new software solutions and adds new features to existing solutions
● Writes SQL queries and manages SQL databases
● Provides IT and technical support for all employees
Education: B.S./B.A. or equivalent experience in IT, IS, or computer science; fluency in JavaScript is
required

Hi -

My name is Rachel Bromhead. I work at a company in Grand Rapids called Tekton. We're quite involved with Calvin's engineering and business departments and in fact, we've hired quite a few students and alum. We're always so impressed with their level of dedication to their work.

We're in need of a position we're calling an IT Operations Developer. This person would work in our IT department with Aaron Koenes, a Calvin alum, working on the continuing development of our ERP system (NetSuite), and also helping to develop websites that are used internally and externally. This person would also provide IT technical support for all employees.

This would be a great position for someone about the graduate or a recent graduate. I'm hoping you have some connections to these individuals. We look for high performers in their professional life, but also their personal life. Someone with strong integrity and capable of working hard and doing what's right. Any connections you have with Computer Science professors would also be great, I'd love to learn more about the program and how Tekton can be involved.
