Subject: Have Project, Need Student
Biology and Computer Science colleagues,
I am in need of a student who would enjoy/benefit from a research project that requires both biological and computational skills. Basically, I need to compare pathogenic and non-pathogenic bacterial genomes from the same phylogenetic lineage for gene acquisition/loss/rearrangement. There are existing tools, but they make absolutely no sense to me. We also have a web-based program developed here at Calvin in conjunction with Serita Nelesen that needs to be modified to accommodate comparisons of large genomes. If you know of a student that has good programming skills that might be interested in studying genome evolution, please let me know, or send them my way. This would be a paid position both during the school year and into the summer.
Finding this student soon is very important to me, so I appreciate your consideration.
John
