Greetings from Seattle and Happy (belated) New Year! Hope 2021 has been off to a good start and things are starting to resemble a sense of normalcy around campus.

I’m reaching out because as a former senior I can remember this time of year putting pressure on students still trying to lock down their first full-time roles. I can imagine that pressure is compounded this year given the challenges the pandemic has presented. As a result, I’d like to offer to help qualified upcoming graduates that are interested in entry-level positions at Amazon. At the risk of diving into the details too quickly, I want to flag there is some need for urgency as interviews for these positions have already started. I spoke with one of the recruiters who encouraged me to have referrals submitted ideally by the end of next week but likely would accept them over the next couple weeks (happy to submit in batches).

Process Overview/Details:

•         #1 thing to highlight is to ensure candidates do not proactively apply for any of these roles as once they do they can no longer be referred for that specific role. Instead, once I receive the below information for a candidate I will be able to refer them in our system which will send the candidate an email containing a link to where they will submit their application (important to check that Spam folder too).

•         As a first step to get things moving, I’d kindly ask that if you’re able to collect and provide me with the following information from interested students in order for me to refer them so that they can submit their applications ASAP. Afterward, I’d be more than happy to connect with them to answer any questions (about the role, working at Amazon, etc.) but also help prepare those that hear back for their interviews. The interviews are challenging but are much less daunting if applicants know how best to prepare. I don’t have any sort of referral cap (at least that I’m aware of), so I’m happy to try to submit however many interested students you think are qualified for these roles. I’m unsure how many openings there are per program but know they are competitive.

•         What I need in order to submit a referral: the candidate’s resume (PDF format) and the program(s) they are interested in. A cover letter is not necessary.

Again I want to be cognizant of what might be information overload here. But when thinking about when I was in these students’ shoes not too long ago (as much as it pains me to type that ha), I would’ve wanted any opportunity someone was willing to throw my way when it came to finding my first role. Speaking from experience, sometimes Calvin students just need to get their foot in the door to have a shot at demonstrating they can deliver value for some of these larger organizations. It’s a challenging position but provides a level of responsibility largely unheard of for a recent graduate. The experience is well-respected internally and helps unlock opportunities to work in other areas throughout the company.
