This semester has been remarkably productive for our recruitment efforts, with impressive outreach across multiple universities and special events. The collaborative approach has yielded strong results.

  *   Team effort: I and 13 colleagues worked together on this recruitment initiative, creating a substantial outreach team

  *   Total interactions: Over 200 potential candidates engaged through various touchpoints.

  *   CRM additions: 138 new contacts added to the database, representing a conversion rate of approximately 69% from initial interactions.

  *   Active engagement: 35 individuals maintaining ongoing email communication with me personally and four other individuals in contact with colleagues looking to mentor or hire these exceptional people.

  *   Interview pipeline: More than 20 candidates personally interviewed by me for summer internships and full-time positions, indicating a strong qualification rate of 14.5% of total CRM contacts


The Lightsys Code-a-thon in Colorado Springs stands out as a particular success. This event showcased amazing young talent with nine technical projects completed to high standards. The three SIL-sponsored projects were especially noteworthy, with one solution already implemented in production environments—an impressive timeline from concept to deployment considering the event was only four days!


The collaboration between our 14-person team demonstrates effective coordination in identifying and engaging promising talent. Having 35 candidates maintain direct communication with us suggests the importance of personal contact.


The rapid transition of one SIL project from development to production demonstrates both the quality of the participating talent and the practical, implementation-ready nature of the work being done. This success validates one of our recruitment strategies of engaging with candidates through hands-on technical challenges that simulate real-world problem-solving.

James Post graduated from Hope College with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. He had an entry-level programming position for about a year before the Lord called me into Bible translation. James did a short-term trip in Papua New Guinea, completed a master’s degree in Linguistics and Exegesis, and joined Wycliffe.

Brian: What or who inspired you to be part of serving the Bible translation movement?

James: A Wycliffe missionary shared “The Love Story”: the language they had worked in didn’t have a word for “love”. For two years, they looked at various relationships before finally finding an appropriate phrase for “love”. The process he described sounded like problem solving and I thought, “I’m a computer scientist, that’s what I do. I think I could do that… I think I WANT to do that.” The Holy Spirit touched me at that moment, and I started pursuing a career as a Wycliffe missionary.

Brian: Describe your current role and the team you are part of within Language Technology.

James: After working in Papua New Guinea for a number of years, the Lord transitioned us to a remote role, based in the USA. I currently serve as a Language Technology Consultant, helping support the Bible translation movement through troubleshooting, website management, providing training resources, and pastoral care.

Brian: What aspects of your current work do you enjoy the most?

James: It’s a treat to be able to use my skills/knowledge in computers, linguistics, and Bible translation all together in a single role. I get to tackle projects that are both challenging and enjoyable and test new technologies to see how they might help teams around the world.

Weekly meetings with my Care Team are also a highlight! Sharing about Jesus’ work in my life and seeing/hearing about Him working in other’s lives makes me come alive.

Brian: What would you say about your colleagues throughout your missions career and currently?

James: My colleagues are hard-working and caring, they enjoy life, their work, and each other. We share a common goal of seeing people flourish through having Scripture in their own language.

Prayer Points for Talent Acquisition

  *   Pray for the Scripture Application and Leadership Training (SALT) teams and participants around the South Pacific. Each SALT team engages nationals in a two-week program. Pray also for the pastors, evangelists, deacons, and church leaders as they bring greater understanding to newly translated Scriptures.

  *   Pray for the many possible interns for this summer. We have had recent interviews and technical evaluations with students from all the universities we have visited in the past year.

  *   In addition to the summer interns, pray for the many people that have been interviewed for some of the roles to the right.
