<div>Lutheran Social Services of Michigan is launching a summer/after school program focused on</div>
<div>increasing youths’ interest in STEM professions (Science, technology, engineering and Math), called </div>
<div>the Gamer’s experience; at its neighborhood center located in Saginaw, MI. The Gamer’s Experience</div>
<div>is an 8 week, half-day summer and after-school camp where youth will have access to computers with </div>
<div>software that allows them to design their own video game. Through the instruction and support of a </div>
<div>programming teacher, 15-20 students per year will translate their video game vision into reality from </div>
<div>the storyboarding process through code-writing. The program will utilize a well-supported program </div>
<div>known as Scratch, which was developed by the Lifelong Kindergarten Group at the MIT Media Lab. </div>
<div>Scratch, allows users to program their own interactive stories, games, animations and share their </div>
<div>creations with others in the online community. More importantly, “it helps young people learn to think </div>
<div>creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively — essential skills for life in the 21st century.”</div>
