<div>We have heard that a number of internship programs have been cut back. Not so with the BLUE WATERS STUDENT INTERNSHIPS!!

<div>The Blue Waters Petascale project (an NSF-funded supercomputer a MILLION times faster than your mac or pc!) also funds 20 internships. You have the chance to propose a project that will help one of your students:
<div><br>
</div>
<div>• Learn how to run science codes on the nation's fastest academic supercomputer</div>
<div>• Learn parallel thinking and parallel processing in the context of real science</div>
<div>• Have all expenses paid for a 2-week Institute at the University of Illinois</div>
<div>• Receive a $5000 stipend for working for you on your project during the summer and following school year</div>
<div>• Compete to represent the project at the Blue Waters Symposium in 2016</div>
<div>• Make friends and develop collaborations with students from across the country.</div>

Are you a student looking for an internship or faculty interested<br>
in mentoring a student?<br>
<br>
Blue Waters Student Internship Program<br>
Now Accepting Applications (due by Friday March 20, 2015)<br>
<br>
Blue Waters Student Internship Program is actively seeking faculty<br>
and students to participate in year-long student internship<br>
opportunities.<br>
<br>
Students in the program will gain experiences involving the<br>
application of high-performance computing to problems in science,<br>
mathematics, or engineering.<br>
<br>
The program provides students with:<br>
<br>
* a stipend for undergraduate participants totaling $5000,<br>
<br>
* a two-week intensive Petascale Institute (May 24 - June 6,<br>
2015), and<br>
<br>
* travel to the Blue Waters Symposium 2016 if selected to present.<br>
<br>
This program provides support for internship activities at any<br>
accredited degree granting institution in the United States.<br>
<br>
The internships awarded through this program may be for students<br>
working with a faculty member on their home campus, or at<br>
another campus.<br>
<br>
Graduate students are welcome to apply to attend the Petascale<br>
Institute.<br>
<br>
They are responsible for arranging their own research advisor and<br>
any stipend would be the responsibility of the research advisor.<br>

Blue Waters, supported by NSF and the University of Illinois, is<br>
one of the world's most powerful supercomputers and the fastest on<br>
a university campus.<br>
<br>
Up to 1 percent of the computing capacity of Blue Waters is<br>
available for educational efforts aimed at preparing the next<br>
generation of students and teachers and an educated workforce.<br>
<br>
The goal of the Blue Waters Student Internship Program and of the<br>
education allocation is to provide unique learning experiences for<br>
undergraduate and graduate students across a wide array of<br>
traditional and emerging disciplines.<br>
<br>
In collaboration with Blue Waters, Shodor and the National<br>
Computational Science Institute will provide support and content<br>
for the internship program and Petascale Institute.<br>
<br>
Shodor, a national resource for computational science education,<br>
is located in Durham, NC, and serves students and educators<br>
nationwide.<br>
