Hello Abstraction,

LightSys Technology Services is a 20-year-old ministry that provides computer programming and information technology services, for free, to other ministries.

LightSys wants you to know there are many ways software development creates and supports ministry around the world and wants you to experience how God can use your gifting and growing skill set to help expand His kingdom.

LightSys offers three opportunities to get involved: The Spring Break Code-a-Thon for Missions, internships and a career path.

In Colorado Springs this past March, LightSys hosted 46 students from 7 colleges for the Spring Break Code-a-Thon for Missions! Students completed several software development projects, most of them submitted by other mission organizations.

Internships are available any time of the year but are more common during the summer. Summer internships typically begin mid-May and end the second week of August. That is twelve weeks but you can select any period of time greater than eight weeks and that eight weeks does not need to be contiguous. You can participate in the internship as a volunteer or paid employee. Summer internships also include participation at ICCM, the International Conference on Computing and Missions.

LightSys can help you begin a career as a missionary software developer or traveling field consultant. We have a one year program that will help you with the transition, even if you have some education debt.

ICCM may be sponsoring a ministry-focused software development competition at its conference next summer. The cash prizes are looking to be significant. The conference is scheduled to be June 24 to 27.

Scott McConnell with LightSys will be hosting an informational meeting on all of these opportunities at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in SB 382. Scott has invited Spring Break Code-a-Thon attendees to share about his experience with LightSys and there will be Chick-fil-A and pop to share. The meeting will end by 6:30 p.m.
