(This message from Prof. Schuurman.)

Dear students,

The Calvin Prison Initiative (CPI) has asked whether there might be any computer science students who might be interested in helping some of their students who have begun their studies here at Calvin. Some of the students associated with the Calvin Prison Initiative arrive at Calvin after spending years in prison, in some cases decades. While in prison, they have limited access to computers and no internet. When they arrive at Calvin after being released, some of them need help with basic computer literacy, such as sending email and navigating the web. They’ve been able to seek help from classmates or from each other, but a few of them could still benefit from an “expert” sitting down with them. It also helps them feel more welcomed into the community each time people seek to connect with them.

CPI is requesting any computer science students who might be interested in doing some occasional volunteer tutoring to help these students here on Calvin's campus. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Christina Pickett at cmp27 at calvin.edu<mailto:cmp27 at calvin.edu>

thanks!

Prof. Schuurman
