Subject: !0 days to go! We need you to propose projects and match with your students!

We have heard that a number of internship programs have been cut back. Not so with the BLUE WATERS STUDENT INTERNSHIPS!!

The Blue Waters Petascale project (an NSF-funded supercomputer a MILLION times faster than your mac or pc!) also funds 20 internships. You have the chance to propose a project that will help one of your students:

• Learn how to run science codes on the nation's fastest academic supercomputer
• Learn parallel thinking and parallel processing in the context of real science
• Have all expenses paid for a 2-week Institute at the University of Illinois
• Receive a $5000 stipend for working for you on your project during the summer and following school year
• Compete to represent the project at the Blue Waters Symposium in 2016
• Make friends and develop collaborations with students from across the country.

We are looking for as diverse an applicant group as we can, and we could use your imagination and enthusiasm to propose a project and to encourage a student to apply to work with you on that project.

See below for more information. 10 DAYS LEFT BEFORE THE DEADLINE! Please refer all questions to Phil List at the e-mail above.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!

Are you a student looking for an internship or faculty interested
in mentoring a student?

Blue Waters Student Internship Program
Now Accepting Applications (due by Friday March 20, 2015)

Blue Waters Student Internship Program is actively seeking faculty
and students to participate in year-long student internship
opportunities.

Students in the program will gain experiences involving the
application of high-performance computing to problems in science,
mathematics, or engineering.

The program provides students with:

* a stipend for undergraduate participants totaling $5000,

* a two-week intensive Petascale Institute (May 24 - June 6,
2015), and

* travel to the Blue Waters Symposium 2016 if selected to present.

This program provides support for internship activities at any
accredited degree granting institution in the United States.

The internships awarded through this program may be for students
working with a faculty member on their home campus, or at
another campus.

Graduate students are welcome to apply to attend the Petascale
Institute.

They are responsible for arranging their own research advisor and
any stipend would be the responsibility of the research advisor.

Interested students can apply at:

http://bluewaters.ncsa.illinois.edu/internships
http://shodor.org/petascale/participation/internships

Faculty who would like to mentor an undergraduate student can
post descriptions of available positions.

Positions can be intended for a particular applicant or opened to
all qualified applicants.

Faculty can submit internship positions at:

http://bluewaters.ncsa.illinois.edu/internships
or

Blue Waters, supported by NSF and the University of Illinois, is
one of the world's most powerful supercomputers and the fastest on
a university campus.

Up to 1 percent of the computing capacity of Blue Waters is
available for educational efforts aimed at preparing the next
generation of students and teachers and an educated workforce.

The goal of the Blue Waters Student Internship Program and of the
education allocation is to provide unique learning experiences for
undergraduate and graduate students across a wide array of
traditional and emerging disciplines.

In collaboration with Blue Waters, Shodor and the National
Computational Science Institute will provide support and content
for the internship program and Petascale Institute.

Shodor, a national resource for computational science education,
is located in Durham, NC, and serves students and educators
nationwide.
