The Internship program at Gordon Food Service is a paid 13-week summer program designed to provide a learning experience outside of the classroom to high potential students with interest in our company. We value this opportunity to deepen relationships across the company, community, and university environments, while also bringing new ideas and talent to our teams. The internship experience at GFS includes individual projects, mentoring, intern events, final presentations and evaluations.
As an Intern at Gordon Food Service you, under general supervision, will perform support tasks as directed involving administering a specialized program or performing a specialized assignment in a specific department. You will work with a mentor and often using a paired-programming model.
Our talented Information Systems team members are known for their high standards of productivity, attention to detail, and valuable team partnerships to achieve the best results. As an intern for our Information Systems Team you would have the opportunity to work with some of the most advanced technology systems and processes to develop and test software in a Java application environment. Several assignments are available, including systems and processes that support warehouse management, transportation, procurement, CRM, and mobile solutions.
Goals and Duties:
* Learn the tools and processes utilized in the software development environment at GFS
* Perform software development tasks, following specifications and direction from team members, including but not limited to requirements gathering, development, documentation, testing, releases, and troubleshooting
* Gain an understanding of GFS software development environment and processes, with guidance from an experienced mentor.
Some of the requirements and qualifications for this position are:
* Must have at least one semester or more left of school to complete at the beginning of the internship (a senior who has already graduated will not be considered for an internship)
* Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
* Must have at least 60 credit hours earned by May 2015. Students will be asked to provide a transcript at the time of an interview
* Must be authorized to work in the US, regardless of citizenship status.
* Must be enrolled in a Bachelor program in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a relevant field
* Must have good working knowledge of the Java and SQL programing language
* Must have effective written and verbal communication skills.
* Experience with Unix/Linux is a plus
* Knowledge of the Software Development Lifecycle Management process, testing processes, and Agile software development methodologies a plus
* Demonstrate efforts to continuously improve, enthusiasm, high expectations of self, initiative, openness, optimism, teamwork, trustworthiness and willingness to invest the time and energy to be successful
