Computer Science and/or Data Science student wanted for a full-time summer job opportunity, June 1 - July 31, $10.31 per hour for 40 hours per week. As part of the prestigious McGregor Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program, Prof. Darrell Rohl (Archaeology, History, Digital Humanities) seeks an exceptional student with relational database and web application development experience to assist with the development and initial implementation of a new data model for archaeological fieldwork recording and analysis. The primary objective is to create and implement a robust data model in PostgreSQL based upon existing archaeological recording practices and international cultural heritage data standards. No previous archaeological experience or expertise is required but the fellow will need to have a good understanding of data structures, relational data models, and SQL. Experience with PostgreSQL is not required but it is expected that applicants will have previous experience with MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, or similar relational database management systems. The fellow will work closely with Prof. Rohl throughout the period of the fellowship, will participate in additional McGregor Program activities, and will make a final project presentation at the end of July. Prof. Rohl will work with the student to develop a poster or article for presentation and/or publication in an upcoming academic conference.

Applications are due on March 3, and must be made through the McGregor Program application system at https://calvin.edu/offices-services/research-scholarship/funding/student-funding/mcgregor/ Interested students should contact Prof. Rohl (dr33 at calvin.edu<mailto:dr33 at calvin.edu>) to discuss the project BEFORE submitting an application.
