This is a 40-hour-per-week position which offers paid sick, vacation, and holiday time as well as health and retirement benefits. Pay starts at $24.9972 per hour and offers the opportunity for increases beginning at six months.

Job Title: Library Systems Administrator
Location: Grand Rapids Public Library, Main Library
Status: Non-exempt
Starting Wage: $24.9972 per hour
Hours: 40 hours per week
Supervisor: Information Systems Assistant Manager

Job Summary:
This is technical computer systems work in support of a multi-site network. Work includes providing backup support for department management. This position involves system administration with an emphasis on developing software and tools to aid in the delivery of library service for both patrons and staff. Strong scripting and coding skills will be used to maintain applications across Windows and Linux platforms, utilizing RFID reader/writers for asset management. Work is performed under direction of the IS Assistant Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Maintain the operation of network systems.
2. Analyze existing software, modifying or replacing to gain efficiency.
3. Update and/or develop Internet/intranet applications.
4. Provide end-user hardware and software support.
5. Assist with the installation of workstations and RFID hardware.
6. Install components in systems as may be required.
7. Research and/or download updated drivers (eg. video, printer).
8. Assist with the installation of new software upgrades.
9. Assist with the evaluation of hardware and software components for purchasing.
10. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Strong analytic skills with 2-3 years software development experience.
2. Experience with the LAMP software stack.
3. Experience with Perl, C#, and Android/iOS development desired.
4. Strong SQL skills.
5. Knowledge of Cisco IOS commands and configuration.
6. Ability to install system hardware, software, and related equipment.
7. Ability to communicate effectively with team and other staff members.
8. Excellent understanding of TCP/IP.
9. Ability to manage software projects from requirements gathering through implementation.
10. Ability to work with Windows, Linux/Unix, and related software.
11. Ability to work with tools and equipment used to install, troubleshoot, and repair computer equipment.
12. Flexibility to adjust schedule to accommodate requirements of service.
13. Assist in researching products.
14. Excellent organizational skills.
Working Conditions:
The employee must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time in the performance of the duties associated with this position. Lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds with out assistance is also required. The ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer is essential to this position.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, experience in related field or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Two years of experience is required. A thorough knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Linux/Unix is required and experience with Open Office is preferred. Experience with MySQL or PostgreSQL is required. A working knowledge of at least one application package in each of these areas: communication, spreadsheet, database management, word processing, email, and Internet browsing.
