If so, then apply to be a part-time Help Desk Technician at Grand Rapids Public Library, a nationally recognized innovative leader in library service. Job Title:   Help Desk Technician
Location:  Grand Rapids Public Library - Main Branch
Wage Range:  $16.8703 to $18.2494 / hr.
Hours:  20 hours per week (evening and weekend hours will be required)
Posting Date:  November 27, 2015
Closing Date:  December 4, 2015, or longer until filled


Job Summary:
This person will maintain end-user workstations on local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN).  Perform a variety of maintenance, software installation, end-user support and training tasks to ensure end-user workstations and network performance meet organization requirements.  Provide support to staff on various applications.  Troubleshoot computer problems, determine source and advise on appropriate action.  Complete application project-based work.  Perform responsibilities in accordance with all organization standards, policies and procedures.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. 1-2 years help-desk experience.
2. Ability to install and support Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems
3. Ability to troubleshoot and repair computer hardware
4. Solid knowledge of TCP/IP networking
5. Familiarity with open-source software
6. Reliable transportation
7. Strong desire to help others, learn more, and figure things out


Desirable:
- Software development experience, shell scripting, JavaScript or CGI development (primarily Perl)
- Knowledge of library system software, preferably Evergreen
- Working knowledge of SQL

- Experience with Debian or Ubuntu Linux
